The Most Wonderful Place to Be

As we look to put 2020 behind us, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve experienced together. The year 2020 was one of loss for so many of us, yet it was also a year of great reimagining.

In the real estate industry, we were all forced to learn how to become more nimble, to flex within a new set of rules and to pivot to new ways of serving our clients in this new world. In the first quarter of 2020, as the pandemic first hit and ushered in great uncertainty, we all wondered how the luxury real estate market would react. What would it look like to weather what was clearly a sea change in our industry, and what would it look like once we reached the other side? Thanks to Coldwell Banker’s closely linked network of real estate agents and a deft leadership team, we shifted gears quickly, implementing broad changes that emphasized agent support and technology. We did it together, with no roadmap to show us how to get from point A to point B. We emerged from the third quarter in one of the strongest luxury real estate markets we’ve ever encountered. And to think, only 11 months prior, no one could have foreseen the storm on the horizon — just take a look at what I was writing about in January 2020. (Oh, what I would give to travel back in time and tell myself!) The Coldwell Banker North Star guided us all home again, like the constant shining presence that it is.

The year 2020 was also one of home. Since the pandemic started, home became the center of our universe. What was once seen as a place to which we retreated at the end of the day became a place where we now spend 24 hours a day. This profound lifestyle shift was a key driver for many of our affluent clients this year, as they sought to reimagine their lives in new homes and new locations. Whether they wanted to live closer to nature or have more outdoor space for their family, they embraced home as not just a place but a promise. Home holds the keys to their sense of comfort, well-being, privacy and security. Even in moments of uncertainty, there is nothing quite the feeling of coming home. Set to Simon & Garfunkel’s classic song, “Homeward Bound,” Coldwell Banker’s new “Home for the Holidays” commercial sparks all the warm and fuzzy feelings of home — the most wonderful place to be.

If there is one thing that we proved this year, it’s that the Coldwell Banker brand is the most wonderful place to be for so many agents and their clients. Our transparent rebrand with the Coldwell Banker North Star continues to touch people in so many ways, whether they realize it or not. In fact, Coldwell Banker was named as a finalist for the prestigious 2021 PRWeek US Awards in the “Best in Corporate Branding” category.

It shows that we have a bright future ahead of us. With a vaccine on the way, we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. The year 2020 was challenging, but it revealed what we could achieve together. If we can come out of 2020 on top, anything is possible in 2021!

Happy holidays to you and yours. Until next year.
