It’s not exactly a bold statement to call Miami a young city. The international melting pot has always been a magnet for the young, wealthy and trendy who want a piece of its art, fashion, nightlife and warm South Florida sun. Hillary Hertzberg should know. She is not only a Miami Beach native, but also a rising luxury real estate star at Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate in Florida. (Incidentally, the apple does not fall far from the tree—her mother is Jill Hertzberg, the other half of Miami real estate dream team The Jills®.)
Hertzberg has watched her city transform from a balmy tourist town to a booming international luxury mecca. The constant cycle of affluent newcomers has driven her to keep her finger on the pulse of what the youngest, hippest and wealthiest homebuyers want. (For the record, in Miami, it’s a modern house with smart home technology, eco-friendly features and “open floorplans with sheets of glass to let the outside in and minimalist design throughout.”) She’s also embraced the technologies of the day—Dotloop (a digital real estate transaction system) and millennial-favorites like Instagram to connect with her clients “in a natural way and engage in conversations rather than spamming my network.” Her sense of social consciousness—a closely held millennial value—has also inspired the creation of what she calls the “Second Generation Giving Fund.” Through the fund, she and her brother Danny (also an agent) donate to the charity of their clients’ choosing after each closing.
“Being able to give back to different charities brings greater meaning to our work and allows us to connect on a deeper level with our clients,” she says.
Whether she’s finding meaningful links to her clients or finding their idea of a dream home, Hertzberg seems to have secured her place among Miami’s young and well-heeled. We decided to get to know her better and get to the bottom of what luxury means for the next generation.
