Luxury RV Travel Renaissance: Top Resorts to Explore This Summer

Thinking of heading off in a luxury RV this summer? The coronavirus has changed many a jetsetter’s plans, and international travel’s loss is luxury RV travel’s gain. According to the RV Industry Association (RVIA), 46 million Americans plan to take an RV trip in the next 12 months. That’s a jump from 25 million last year. “RVs provide a great way for consumers to enjoy vacations with their families, while still adhering to social distancing policies that are likely to remain in place in some fashion moving forward,” said RV Industry Association President Craig Kirby. But where should you go? When you start considering locations, you probably think of Florida. After all, there are hundreds of RV parks up and down the state (not to mention in the Panhandle and the Keys!). We couldn’t create a list of luxury RV resorts—most of which have strict rules for the size, age, and condition of vehicle you can show up in—without dipping a wheel into the Sunshine State. But there is a whole country full of plush resorts where you’d be proud to park your seven-figure transportation-accommodation. Whether you want to hang out in the California desert, position yourself close to a big city like Boston or the glitz of Las Vegas, or explore the natural beauty of a more unexpected spot, you have some great options.

Motorcoach Country Club — Indio, CA 

This five-star resort in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs is widely considered the top luxury RV resort in the country. It was recently voted the best RV resort in the country by USA Today's readers, and it’s not hard to see why. The views are astounding, and so are the amenities, with a yacht club, miles of waterways you can navigate by boat, three swimming pools, golf courses, spa experiences, and concierge service. Stay for the night from $114 to $211, the higher of which will get you a premium lot, some with a private pool. Lots sell from $56,000 to $800,000.

Hearthside Grove Luxury Motorcoach Resort | Petoskey, Michigan

This luxe resort is situated between Round Lake and Crooked Lake and is minutes from Little Traverse Bay. Enjoy the natural beauty of Michigan and a wooded nature preserve as well as high-end amenities including a resort pool and a theater. The upscale coastal resort town of Petoskey offers an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities including biking and hiking trails and world-class golf, plus detailed Victorian architecture, with many local homes on the National Historic Register, as well as the Gaslight Shopping District and the Petoskey Stone, fossilized rugose coral found in the area. Polson Motorcoach & RV Resort — Polson, MT

If you prefer mountains and lakes for your view, escape to this Montana luxury RV resort, where you’ll enjoy expansive vistas of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States, and the majestic Mission Mountains. Sink into Big Sky Country, with Glacier National Park, National Bison Range, and the resort towns of Bigfork and Whitefish a short drive away. This Class A motorcoach resort is also just a mile from town, putting dining and shopping at easy reach. Rent a site in this haven for $89.95 to $225 per night in summer, or purchase so you can return whenever you want (or never leave) from $94,000 to $625,000.

Mountain Falls Luxury Motorcoach Resort — Lake Toxaway, NC

A luxury RV resort set high up in the Blueridge Mountains at 3,200 feet, Mountain Falls offers some of the best views you’ll find at any RV resort across the country. You’ll also have access to amenities including pools, a spa, private clubhouse, golfing, pickle ball and tennis courts. Rentals are priced from $115 per night at this Class A-exclusive resort, or you can purchase a lot for $95,000 to 600,000. When you’re not holed up in your RV, you can play 18 hours on one of the many golf courses nearby, explore the Biltmore House and Gardens, the city of Asheville, NC, or Whitewater Falls, the highest waterfall in in the Eastern United States.

LVM Resort — Las Vegas, NV

LVM is how Las Vegas does the luxury RV route. This top-rated resort is located approximately 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and features more than 400 sites, more than 1,000 palm trees, a huge clubhouse, a resort-style pool, two whirlpools, a tanning pool, and an on-site restaurant. You’ll spend $80 to $120 per night for your RV site in high season depending on the day of the week, some with a built-in BBQ, eating area, and shade structure. Or, purchase a lot from $124,900 to $289,000.

Bella Terra of Gulf Shores — Foley, AL.

Located about nine miles from the beach, Bella Terra of Gulf Shores is an upscale RV resort community with a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse, an infinity pool, a private movie theater, and workout facilities. The oversized lots feature views of the resort’s stocked lake and lush landscaping. Rentals starting at just $51 per night and luxury lots are priced for sale from $295,000 to $499,000, including oversized lakeside sites with available private pools, spas, and covered patios. Bluewater Key RV Resort — Key West, FL

Our sole Florida entry, Bluewater Key RV Resort is located in Key West at the intersection of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The resort features private docks for boating, fishing, and swimming on its waterfront sites, or hit the open water for public boat rentals for fishing, scuba diving, kayaking and paddleboarding. There’s also a resort pool. Rental sites cost $100 to 200 per night during the summer months, and each comes complete with a private tiki hut decked out with a kitchen, lounge space, and TV. Currently available luxury RV sites for purchase are priced from $429,000 to 950,000.

Normandy Farms Campground — Foxboro, Mass.

If you’re doing a comprehensive tour of America, you won’t want to miss Boston. But the city’s not exactly conducive to a luxury stay on wheels. Head to Foxboro, instead. About 40 minutes away from the city, Normandy Farms Campground offers a relaxing, scenic, stay this summer and a four-season experience with a setting deep in the woods. There are no lots for sale here, but you can stay the night for $80 to $117 for a full-hook-up site. The resort also offers family-friendly cabin, yurts, and pop-up RV rentals.
