House Hunting in Amazon’s New HQ2 Settings

Now that Amazon has announced its new HQ2 (or, HQ2s, as it were), attention has turned to real estate in the two winning spots, Crystal City, VA and Long Island City, NY. After all, each chosen city is expected to have 25,000 jobs to fill. Of course, many of those jobs are executive-level, and finding a suitable property could be challenging for those on the upper end.

Crystal City doesn’t have much in the way of residential real estate, period, at the moment, let alone luxury. But, the area is ripe for redevelopment. “The neighborhood is walkable and just a few subway stops from downtown Washington and Capitol Hill,” said the New York Times. “The area also has one of the country’s best-educated work forces, and the public school systems rank high.”

In Long Island City, you have an area that is already one of the most expensive in Queens, with a median home price just under $770,000. Development has been steady, and upscale apartments can be found in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City for well over $1 million for a two-bedroom, two-bath.

But, for many who will be making the move, these homes just won’t do. Thankfully, the areas surrounding and within easy reach of the new HQ2s are rich with everything from view-oriented high rises, to classic estates, to majestic waterfront properties. The Coldwell Banker Global Luxury® program rounded up a few of our favorites.
