Color Scientist Shares The Power of Your Color DNA

Selecting home paint colors is a daunting task. The color choices feel endless. And, we’ve all been in a room that is just too yellow. Don’t leave it to chance. Did you know choosing colors is actually a science?

That’s why NorthStar Moving has partnered with The Science of Color Founder and Color Scientist Gillian Rose. As a color scientist, Gillian integrates science and art to discover an individual’s and couple’s primal response to color, which are in your DNA. Using those responses, Gillian creates a personal color palette for each client that is as individual as a fingerprint. The result is a home with colors that reflect personal inner balance and harmony.

“Everyone reacts differently to color. The wrong colors for your personality can literally drain your energy, making you feel lethargic or overly emotional,” said Color Scientist Gillian Rose. “Our reactions to paint color are innate, part of our brain triggers our psychological, emotional, as well as physical responses to color. So, you’re not crazy if you think a certain loud color is changing the whole vibe of a room. You may be surprised to learn that your favorite color has nothing to do with how you wish to feel in your space.”

Gillian offers these tips on how to discover your “Color DNA” and find your color palette:

  1. Out with the Old: The first step is the hardest…letting go. Let go of your old ways of choosing paint colors. For most of us, our understanding of paint colors is taught to us by the paint companies. They are selling paint – not your perfect color.
  2. Find Inspiration: Search online and in magazines to pull together photos of rooms you love. Examine the photos to discover what it is about the rooms that speak to you. You will experience a consistent overarching feeling from the ones that touch you the most.
  3. The Chosen One: The winner is the room with colors that gives you a feeling that would be desirable to you each and everyday. These are “your colors.”
  4. Shop: Go to your favorite home store and select as many paint samples as you can find in the color range from the winning room. “Your color” will stand out to you from the samples. It’s about resonating within, nothing more or nothing less.

Your response to color is as individual as you are. Utilize your primal responses to color to create a personalized home color palette. Living in your carefully chosen colors will have a positive impact on our inner balance. Discover your true colors, incorporate them into your living space and you will truly feel at home!
