Beaux Arts-Era Masterpiece in San Francisco

In San Francisco's Pacific Heights district, art, design, and beauty reign supreme. As one of the oldest and most affluent neighborhoods in the city, Pacific Heights harmonizes historic architecture with iconic views of everything from the Golden Gate Bridge to the San Francisco Bay and the Palace of Fine Arts. This balancing act is ever-present in a 1908 Beaux Arts-era masterpiece that has been seamlessly transformed into a stunning contemporary residence.

As the original vision of Albert Farr, the architecture is an homage to classical order and elaborate preserved detail. Gracious public rooms and high ceilings were a Farr calling card. A segmental arch pediment, a frieze, and an architrave supported by Corinthian columns introduce the interiors, sweeping to about 9,100 square feet.  A gracious entry hall and staircase connect the first two levels as Corinthian pilasters frame a dramatic 12-foot window with curved, interlaced muntins. A meticulous contemporary restoration and renovation in recent years sought to meld these details together with transitional finishes and modern-day accouterments. The main level of the home features a library, a formal living room, and a formal dining room with a grand marble fireplace and a ceiling with distinctive scroll molding. Listing agent Joel Goodrich of Coldwell Banker Realty in San Francisco calls the public rooms "magnificently-scaled," designed "for the grandest of occasions." Other spaces, such as the large eat-in remodeled kitchen with terrace, a family room on the lower level stepping out to the garden, and a spectacular pent-room leading to the 360-degree view roof terrace provide amazing spaces for causal everyday indoor/ outdoor dining, lounging and entertaining while enjoying scenic vistas of the Bay, City, and Golden Gate. Seven bedrooms, six full baths, and one half bath complete the picture of romantic San Francisco living. View the complete listing by Joel Goodrich of Coldwell Banker Realty in San Francisco.
