Current status: grateful. I’m currently writing this message from a stunning resort in Cabo San Lucas, where the first-ever Coldwell Banker Global Luxury® certification for Mexico is taking place. This was the final of nine certification courses this year, with nearly 1,600 brokers passing through the course for 2018! Last night, while dining at the famous Acre restaurant, I remarked to the staff that we have had the most incredible experience here in Cabo. They replied that they were grateful to work there. It’s a reminder that gratitude powers and propels us forward, no matter who we are or where we are.
It’s been a full eight days of luxury immersion for me, and I am feeling inspired and hopeful for the future of luxury. The Cabo certification event comes on the heels of the exclusive Leaders in Luxury conference at the gorgeous Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Sponsored by the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, Leaders in Luxury (LIL) is a truly a unique experience. Outside of our own Global Luxury events like GenBlue, very few other events offer intimate networking opportunities with such a powerful group of prestigious agents and industry leaders — who surely represent the top 5% of their markets. As Diane Hartley, president of the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, told me: “Our goal is to create an environment for real estate professionals to share the best ideas and practices with each other, regardless of brand or market, to better serve their clients.”
This was my second time attending the all-star gathering. Last year, I participated in a panel with three other vice presidents of luxury brands, as we shared our insights on what we collectively saw coming down the road for the 2018 luxury real estate market. This year, I was honored to present the 2018 Leaders in Luxury Marketing Award, which recognizes members who are raising the bar in the industry with innovative and effective marketing for luxury homes. Trust me when I say that the competition for this award was fierce! All four of the finalists were respected, talented leaders in their own right. It was a privilege and a pleasure for me to be a part of it. Added Diane: “It is always a pleasure to include the leadership of significant luxury brands at Institute events. The luxury divisions of brands such as Coldwell Banker® are invested in providing the education, tools and resources their agents need to succeed. The Leaders in Luxury event and the Coldwell Banker Global Luxury program’s overall alignment with the Institute are some of the many things I am grateful for as we prepare to close out the remainder of 2018. As Diane told the LIL crowd, the real estate market may be in a pattern of change — but we believe 2019 will be a year of opportunity and a defining moment for those with the agility to be innovative and adaptable to the market. Lesley Appleton-Young, chief economist for the California Association of REALTORS®, also delivered a similar message as she coined our current situation as transitioning “from great to good,” reminding all of us that “investment in real estate needs to be viewed over the long term, not just compared to the last month — and only then will a clearer story become obvious.” The Coldwell Banker brand has been doing real estate for a long time — 112 years, to be exact! If there is one thing we know how to do, it is adapt. Market shifts. Technological advancements. Broker acquisitions. New brand identities. We have seen it all. At moments like these, who do you want to align yourself with? I’ll leave you with these key words: the leaders in luxury.
